Neal Martin "The 2014 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru has a crisp blackberry and bilberry-scented nose, more reticent than the Charmes-Chambertin at the moment and yet it is undeniably extremely focused. There is a subtle marine influence here that adds a little intrigue, some "je ne sais quoi." The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe black fruit struck through with a keen thread of acidity. There is a little more body and weight on the finish compared to the Charmes-Chambertin, a residue of cold stone and a little pepper on the aftertaste. You come away thinking...that is a very serious wine. Cellar it for 4-5 years and you should have an outstanding counterpart to the domaine's 2014 Charmes-Chambertin."
Jancis Robinson "Super savoury and refreshing. Lovely sweet start and then great lively finish. Great appeal for its combination of depth and refreshment. Fine tannins on the end."
Allen Meadows "A ripe yet distinctly cool and ultra-fresh nose combines notes of various red berry fruit scents, earth, herbal tea and a soupçon of animale. There is excellent cut and punch to the notably muscular and intense middle weight plus flavors that are well-balanced, impressively long, complex and harmonious. Note well though that this is very firmly structured and will need plenty of time to fully mature."
Gérard Basset "Complex and delicious notes of spices and savoury undertones with a mineral finish. Supremely harmonious, this is a fabulous wine of great expression."
Tim Atkin "Taupenot-Merme is one of the few producers to make a Mazoyères as well as a CharmesChambertin. This is the better of the two, partly because of the presence of so many small berries (millerands) in the bunches. Savoury, spicy and succulent with fine tannins, bright acidity, stylish oak and a fine, silky finish. Superb."
Steve Tanzer "(from millerandé vines planted just after World War II; Taupenot noted that these vines could carry 13 or 14 bunches of grapes and still not produce 35 hectoliters per hectare owing to the tiny berries): Healthy medium red. Much wilder on the nose than the Charmes, offering scents of dark raspberry, smoke, game and earth. Fat and sweet in the mouth; more saline and earthbound than the higher-pitched Charmes but plush and seamless. Very deep, dense, sweet and long, finishing with fine-grained tannins that are even plusher than those of the Charmes. Taupenot told me that my sample was more smoky and less floral than usual for this cuvée."
