Description

The hill of Corton is the Côte de Beaune's only Grand Cru appellation for red wine, and is the largest Grand Cru of Burgundy. Corton Rognet is a walled section on the warm eastern slopes rich in marlstone, ideal for Pinot Noir.

Neal Martin "The 2014 Corton Rognets Grand Cru has a tightly wound, slightly earthy bouquet at the moment, more black rather than red fruit, gaining definition with time in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with fine tannin, a little rigid at the moment, with a bit of firmness towards the finish that just needs a little more fruit to fill in between the rafters. Give this 3-5 years in bottle."

Jancis Robinson "Sweet and polished. Round and polished. Lovely texture and drive."

Allen Meadows "Firm reduction blocks an evaluation of the nose. There is excellent size, weight and muscle to the cool, restrained and imposingly intense flavors that are a fine combination of power, punch and richness on the mineral-driven and admirably long finish. This is a classic built-to-age Corton but with no rusticity."

Tim Atkin MW "Romain Taupenot's gentle winemaking even manages to tame the wildness of Corton. Pale and perfumed, this has the slight austerity you look for from the Grand Cru, but it's balanced by elegant red cherry and raspberry fruit and nuanced tannins."

Steve Tanzer "Medium red. Deep, ripe aromas of candied berries, spices, smoke, honey and earth are a bit less pristine than those of the Nuits-Saint-Georges Les Pruliers. Tightly wound and powerful, showing more earthy salinity than primary fruits today. The chewy, granular tannins currently dry the tongue. This wine will need patience."
